God’s mission in the World
The world is God’s mission field and God desires the world to know Him intimately through mission.
1. Creation and God’s original intent
In the account of creation everything was come and reaches a state of existence according to the will of God. Genesis 1 shows us God’s original intention for creation. Creation account proves God’s rightful ownership of heaven and earth. Man on the other hand was God’s representative, summoned to maintain and enforce God’s claim to dominion over the earth. Revelation 21 affirmed the call of God for man to rule over His creation.
2. Covenantal Relationship and Kingdom values
The result of broken relationship with God in Genesis 3 was division in the family, society and destruction of the world by the flood. The first step of restoration process provided by God in Genesis 12 is covenantal relationship. This relationship was reinforced in Exodus 20 and also in the book of Deuteronomy. God establish eternal covenantal relationship with Abraham, David, and Jesus for the advance of His kingdom and for the restoration of His creation. In Matthew 26:28 Jesus proclaimed a new Covenantal relationship and this new form of relationship was explain detail in John 15. Kingdom values derived from the mouth of God who created the heavens and the earth. Kingdom values consist of the will of God for his creation. For instant, God implement laws to keep harmony and peace for His people when they enter into the Promised Land. Breaking of any laws will damage the peace and prosperity of the Nation. The book of Judges played as the fulfilment of Moses’ prophecy concerning keeping kingdom values in the Promised Land. Keeping Kingdom values will bring peace and prosperity to the people as well as to the land. The incarnation and redemption work of Christ minimize the distance between God and man. The tabernacle and priesthood system, and sacrificial system make a way for approximate relationship with God in the Old Testament. However, in the New Covenant a new intimate relationship with God is offered to man. However, the underlying principle of relationship always depends upon who God is and who we are.
3. Beyond the promised land and salvation
Ephesian 2:8-9 unmistakeably stated the ultimate purpose for redeem people. Mission involves the declaration of God’s purposes for the establishing of His Kingdom. Exodus 19:4-6 could be parallel to Ephesian 2:8-9. The covenantal relationship with the King not only must be involved in God’s mission but must actualize the heart of God for the world in its life and witness. The expectation on Kingdom people is high to express concrete manifestations of the perfect King above them (Matthew 5: 48). Therefore, God is the ultimate focus in mission and mission is a manifestation of His perfections.
